Our 26/27 Season

For the first time since 17/18, Red returns to a three-show season! We’re thrilled to present world premieres from two of Chicago’s sharpest playwrights, an intimate staging of a literary classic, and our very first co-production. Join us for three stories about pain, passion, survival, and belonging.

The world premiere of

Church Hurt

by Brynne Frauenhoffer

Directed by Jessica Love

October 24 - November 21, 2026

When Mar gets hired at the church she grew up in, she’s reunited with her onetime youth group besties Faith, who is now head of People Operations, and Julie, who now serves as an outspoken (and openly bisexual) volunteer with progressive goals. Though the three once bonded over Relient K songs and scripture, they now have to reconcile their very different faith journeys in the intervening years. Old wounds and new points of view disrupt ministry efforts as queerness and the non-denominational movement collide.

William Golding’s

Lord of the Flies

by Nigel Williams

Directed by Wyatt Kent

February 20 - March 20, 2027

“Remarkably true to the novel in spirit . . . the theatre lends itself particularly well to the ritualistic aspects of the story – chanting, dancing, marching, forming a circle round the victim, stamping out a fire . . . You end up feeling you have seen a fable of infinite implications enacted in a little room.”

The world premiere of

You Deserve to Be Here

by Alex Lubischer

Directed by Jonathan L. Green

A co-production with City Lit Theater Company

July 2 - August 7, 2027

Meet the “Tragedy Cohort”: Memo survived a war. Oona lost her sister. And Chase is a legacy student with anxiety. Only one can win their grad school’s top prize, bestowed upon whoever pens the Bravest Trauma Narrative. But as Oona, the newbie, advances through the school year, she can’t shake the feeling that something is off. Her writing is better, so why is she worse? And did that mural of Anne Frank just move? A horror comedy about artistic tragedy.
