What is a “relaxed performance”?

Great question! The show stays exactly the same, with sound and lighting cues unchanged from a standard performance. It’s not that the actors are super relaxed – it’s you, the audience!

Relaxed Performances simply mean that the usual rules for theater-going are loosened. That means that if you need to stand up, sit down, move around, make some noise, respond however is natural for you, do some knitting, leave and come back: that is totally fine. The show will carry on as normal, and you won’t be called out in any way.

Some things to consider:

  • The house will open early, with a Touch Tour starting at 6:45P.

  • If you do get up to leave, please only use the door you entered through, and be aware that an actor may need it for an exit or entrance. Please wait for someone to help you re-enter the space.

  • We invite you to really embrace the relaxed setting, and relieve yourselves of the burden of shhing fellow audience members.

  • We’ll have masks, earplugs, and fidgets available at the box office.

What is a “touch tour”?

We’ll be opening the house early for this performance to accommodate a Touch Tour beginning at 6:45P, led by Red cohort member and Accountability team lead Haleigh Kent.

A Touch Tour is a chance for audience members to get acclimated to the playing space before the performance begins. Haleigh will orient you in the space, talking through details of the set and props. Our cast of five actors will introduce themselves, describing their costumes and physical appearances.

Touch Tours are welcome to all ticket holders. They are often helpful for blind or visually impaired audience members, as well as anyone else who would appreciate some extra context for their surroundings.

And that’s it! We’re really hope you’ll join us for this performance of The Pilon. We’re excited to feature this programming this because we think theater should be as accessible as possible, to as many people as possible, and that it’s better when everyone is invited.
