Red Theater History:
Red Theater Lincoln [RTL]- Founded in Lincoln, Nebraska after a bar fight in 2008 (okay, a heated semantic discussion) between Theron Seckington and Aaron Sawyer about the aesthetic virtues of theatre over film (and vice-versa). The collective's first performance was in December 2008 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Kayla Klammer is the current Artistic Director of Red Theater Lincoln.
Red Theater Omaha [RTO] was built by founders Gage Wallace and Aaron Sawyer on the enthusiasm of the first RTO Artistic Director, Jeremy Short, and the experience of Lincoln founding member, Sara Tangdall. RTO's first performance was in August, 2010. Aaron Ellis is the current Artistic Director of Red Theater Omaha.
Red Theater Chicago [RTC]] was built by founders Kim Chelf and Aaron Sawyer. RTC's first performance was the Chicago Premiere of Bertolt Brecht's Schweyk in the Second World War. Their first original full length work wasRed Hamlet by Aaron Sawyer and the Red Theater Collective.
Red Theater Future:
In the summer of 2011, the Red Theater Collectives produced Red Hamlet, a reimagining of Shakespeare's great work, which premiered at the Minnesota Fringe Festival. The Collectives will continue to work together to produce longer plays built upon the body of short works and explorations shared between them.
The Fourth Wall: A Red Theater Documentary is a feature length documentary about the rise of the Red Theater Collectives. It is scheduled for festival submission inthe fall of 2013.
